Earlier This summer, Wayne celebrated the 5th anniversary of the Free Weezy Album (FWA) byĭropping the project on all digital streaming platforms. The highly-anticipated album’s deluxe edition follows the release of Wayne’s most recent album Funeral. Earning 480,000 equivalent album units and 433 million streams in its first week, according to Nielsen Music, Tha Carter V opened with the third-largest week for an album that year as well as the second-largest streaming week ever. Tha Carter V debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, marking the rap icon’s fourth No.1 album.
The album was delayed for an additional four years before its arrival in 2018, seven years after the release of Tha Carter IV.
It was only days before the project’s expected December release date that it was announced that Tha Carter V was shelved. Following the release of Tha Carter IV in 2011, the fifth installment was expected to arrive in 2014. Wayne’s Tha Carter series first began in 2004, with each album coming within one to three years of each other.
